On October 27th 2026, Atrium Health and the State Health Plan entered into a new contract, adding all Atrium Health hospitals to the in-network ‘access’ tier and lowering costs for members and taxpayers. The new contract adds all Atrium Health hospitals and doctors to the in-network ‘access’ tier. State employees using Atrium Health now have in-network coverage for all current Atrium hospitals.

On October 10th, AFPENC and AFGE (American Federation of Government Employees) teamed up with the NC AFL-CIO to canvass union members in Durham! We had a great time working with and meeting other union members in NC. This canvass event is part of an ongoing campaign by the AFL-CIO to reach union members ahead of the 2026 Midterms. We had so much fun in Asheville on September 27th, where AFPENC, Read 2 Succeed, First Book, and AFT teamed up to give over 30,000 books to educators, students, and families in Buncombe county. We are so honored by the community support and turnout of this event, hosted 2 years to the day after Hurricane Helene devastated Western NC. Thank you to all who participated and volunteered for this wonderful event!
